Best Practice at Volgren
By Andrew Brown, AME VIC Committee Member
On June 9, 2017, 13 AME Members attended an exclusive Workplace Insights Tour at Volgren in Dandenong South, Victoria. Volgren provided an excellent overview of the organisations direction, linked seamlessly with the work being done on the shop floor. The corporate values at Volgren mentioned the importance of their people and I was pleased to see at each area of the business they had a way to show how everyone was feeling and if they needed any additional assistance their supervisor was empowered to assist.”
It’s great to see the workers at any manufacturing facility be empowered to improve their work processes. While on the AME tour at Volgrens’ manufacturing operation we were introduced to a supervisor who was building a Jig their team had developed as an improvement idea for their teams' assembly process, the jig had helped to shorten the assembly time, reduce team member body strain and improve the assembly quality of that section.
"I thought the tour was great. Marcus' intro session provided insight into how Volgren uses lean as part of its business transitions and the shop floor tour emphasised their work on front-line empowerment and flow." Julia Fowler, Ernst and Young
"Not many organisations have simplified their overview of Opportunities Management and VOC/CTX process into something that the entire team can understand. Speaking with Jim and Cory, it’s clear that they’re on a good path and working hard facilitating deeper engagement with the team to create process ownership." Tim Odokeychuk, Two Consulting
